If you were to be terminated from your job, how would you prefer for it to be done?

Thе раrt οf mу job thаt I hаtе thе mοѕt іѕ terminations. I hаνе tο dο two terminations today. I аm οn bedrest аnd I аm thinking thаt I ѕhουld nοt chance іt аnd gο іntο thе office tο dο іt face tο face. I саn always dο thе conference call thingie. One οf thе terminations, I dο nοt want tο dο, bυt according tο policy, I hаνе tο dο. One I look sooooo foward tο, bесаυѕе thіѕ person іѕ a constant source οf headache fοr mе. Wουld уου rаthеr bе terminated face tο face, over speaker phone, οr bу certified documentation. Wουld уου rаthеr fіnіѕh thе day οr hаνе іt done before уου ѕtаrtеd work?

Before I get there and with a big fat certified severance check in hand.

Face to face, and in the morning, so I can go home and start looking for something else. . .

i think it should be done face to face and the one i was looking to i would just say you’re fired but to the one i hated to do i would say, i really hate it but i got orders to let you go and i want you to know that i don’t agree but i have to do it because it is my job.

I would prefer to be terminated face to face. If you have to terminate employees you should not do it over the phone for Pete’s sake. Also don’t work me the whole day for your convenience then at the end of the day tell me I don’t have a job. If you are on bed rest you must have a second in command there at your office who can terminate the employees under your authority. I would suggest that you give that person the authority or wait until you can go yourself.

i think it should be before the day ends and should be face to face.
you should give some coffee and biscuits and in a friendly tone tell that you were personally satisfied with the work but the company had some money crunch and wanted some downsizing.
encourage him with a promise to help him finding a job with the help of your acquaintences and finish the meeting with expectations to see him soon.

At my job they fire people at the end of the day on Friday. While its good that they allow them to finish out the week, it sucks because they have the whole weekend to simmer over being unemployed.

If you are going to fire me, fire me in the morning, over the phone. you can clean my desk out yourself and send me that junk in the mail.

I got fired from one job and the only time I have ever been fired b/c on lunch I had a pint of beer on my unpaid lunch. I did it about once a week and was never told anything about there being a problem. I was pulled in one day, at the three month mark and told it was. I was a debt collector and I think the reason I got fired was b/c I was also getting the calls from these same companies and they found out and I was the only one in this small company in a “debt hole”. I think if you fire the person let them know the real reason. If they suck at a specific thing, say so, that way they learn for the next job. I would prefer via the phone! It hurts to know you are not what a person wants at least on the phone you can hang up!

I’d rather it was done face-to-face and before I start work.

That’s what I did during my stint with a private security company.

Face to Face, definitely, and early in the morning, I think I would be a little upset if I worked a full day only to find out I was terminated at the end of the day.

I would prefer a face-to-face termination. . . at least I can ask WHY and certainly it would be end of the day where it takes place. I don’t think I can concentrate on what I am doing for the rest of the day if it was done in the morning. Moreover, you will never know what I can do throughout the day. . . you do not want your going to be ex employee to complain and bit*h to other colleagues right

I agree with Cranky Yankee except that I really don’t care how you tell me.

over the phone pleasse. . . . . . I’ll rather not waste my time and show up at work only to be told “you’re fired!”
