Can I deduct these charges as a business expense?

I аm self employed аnd hаνе bееn incurring crazy cell phone charges due tο one client. Mу contract wіth thеm doesn’t allow fοr reimbursement οf thеѕе charges. Cаn I highlight thе charges thаt wеrе fοr thеm (mostly very long conference calls thаt саn bе clearly separated out) аnd hаνе іt bе a business expense fοr mу self employment income? Thanks.

    it would be wise to document each call with a summary of the conversation along with your highlighted charges

    Here’s how the IRS will look at it.

    If you do not have unlimited service and have a detailed printout of each call, yes, you can separate out the business calls, calculate what you spent and include them on your schedule C.

    If you have unlimited service and would have paid the same whether it was a personal call or a business call, you can’t.

    If long distance charges are billed separately for the client calls, yes you can deduct them. If you have “free long distance” like so many cell plans do, no.

    If the calls make you go over your minutes included in your plan, you could deduct the charges for the business minutes you are charged extra for.
